WiebeTech announces RTX™ with TrayFree™ Technology

Wichita, KS — June 12, 2007 — WiebeTech is introducing a revolutionary new way to access bare hard drives. RTX™ uses WiebeTech's new TrayFree™ Technology to allow users to insert bare 3.5" SATA hard drives - up to 1TB each - without trays or screws. Simply insert a drive into a bay and close the door.

Multiple bay enclosures and interface options will be available in multiple RAID or JBOD configurations. The following configurations are now shipping:

TrayFree™ Technology: RTX JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) enclosures, units ending in SJ, NJ and SV, bring back the old familiarity of floppy disks to computing. The great thing about floppies was certainly not the miniscule 1.4MB of storage space. It was the ease and convenience of having a stack of them by your computer and popping one in whenever you needed it.

For RAIDs, TrayFree Technology means it is easy to expand the number of RAIDed volumes since it requires managing only bare drives.


One of the first RTX models features iSCSI, (SCSI over IP) that marries the tried and true SCSI protocols with the convenience of an ethernet connection. Plug the RTX into a network and access the drives at up to Gigabit speeds. The RTX obtains an IP address, and any one person on the network can access a volume on RTX. A Gigabit connection to the RTX can yield transfer rates up to a blazing 100MB/s.

After the initial launch, standard interfaces such as FireWire, USB and eSATA will also be available. Users may easily choose which RTX products meet their needs, creating access to data in the most convenient way possible. In the coming months, WiebeTech will continue to enhance the RTX line by adding more bays and more connection types.
